**Director-General of the International Energy Agency: April oil supply shortfall will reach three times that of March
In a podcast released on Wednesday, the Director-General of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, said the agency is considering whether it needs to urgently release oil reserves again, and urged governments of various countries to take other energy-saving measures, such as promoting remote work at home and lowering car speed limit standards.
Birol said in a program hosted by Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management, that: “The situation in April will be much more severe than in March.” He said that in March, oil supply was supported by cargoes already en route before the outbreak of the Iran war, so conditions were relatively more relaxed. He added: “The oil supply shortfall in April will reach twice that of March.”
Last month, including the United States, 32 member countries of the International Energy Agency released 400 million barrels of oil from emergency reserves to lower crude oil prices, marking the largest reserves release in the agency’s history.
Birol said: “We are assessing the market situation at a frequency of even every day, or even every hour, to decide whether to take further intervention measures.”

Strategist: Prolongation of the Middle East conflict puts global fertilizer supply at risk
In a research report, analysts at ANZ Bank said that the prolonged Middle East conflict puts global fertilizer supply at risk. These strategists said the Middle East accounts for about 30% of global fertilizer trade and is an important hub for natural gas exports, and added that transport disruptions in the region have already started to affect fertilizer supply. They said energy shocks are also impacting fertilizer production costs, because nitrogen fertilizer is a natural-gas-intensive product. They pointed out that fertilizer-exporting countries such as China and Russia are implementing trade restrictions to ensure domestic supply, further tightening global supply. They added: “These disruptions will affect global food production, raising concerns about increased agricultural costs and production losses.”
