OpenAI cierra Sora, ¿una buena noticia para las aplicaciones en China? Kuaishou KeLing y Vidu aumentan usuarios activos

Phoenix Net Technology reports from Beijing time on April 1 that, according to Bloomberg, a week after OpenAI announced it would shut down its AI video generator Sora, competing players such as Kuaishou’s Keling AI and RunwayML have begun moving in to capture market share.

Data from market intelligence company Sensor Tower shared with Bloomberg, based on iOS and Android, shows that Kuaishou’s Keling AI saw a 4% month-over-month increase in its worldwide weekly active users last week, reaching an average of 2.6 million. In fact, before OpenAI announced shutting down Sora, Keling AI’s worldwide monthly active users were already leading; in March, its average monthly active users reached 7.8 million, while Sora’s were 4.7 million.

Other AI video generation apps also recorded growth. In the same week, the weekly active user counts for Vidu, a video large model under Beijing Shenshu Technology, and RunwayML both increased by 1%. RunwayML is available only in Apple’s App Store, while Vidu is offered for download on both iOS and Android platforms. Another sign of investors’ confidence in their technology is that both RunwayML and Shenshu Technology completed a new round of financing in February.

OpenAI’s decision to stop supporting Sora has opened the door to a fight for users and revenue for smaller competitors. At present, demand in this niche area is surging among creative professionals, filmmakers, and marketing teams. (Author / Xiao Yu)
