Phoenix Net Technology reports from Beijing time March 18: according to Bloomberg, the top hardware engineering executive responsible for Apple’s smart home devices has left the company, moving to smart ring maker Oura Health Oy, which is a blow for a department already facing product delays.

Oura CEO Tom Hale told Bloomberg on Tuesday that Brian Lynch, who has served as Apple’s senior director for smart home devices since 2022, has joined the company as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

In recent years, Apple has been preparing a major push into the smart home technology sector, planning to launch a high-end display with AI and facial recognition features. According to Bloomberg, Apple is also developing a desktop robot device with a 9-inch display, as well as an advanced home security and automation sensor.

Lynch has been overseeing the hardware development for these new devices. Apple originally planned to release this smart display last year, but it has been delayed multiple times due to getting stuck in a difficult rebuild of Siri. Siri’s voice assistant needs to provide personalized data for the devices, and its update is critical.

As of press time, Apple would not comment. (Author/Xiao Yu)
