Investing.com – Volvo Cars should explore more ways to cooperate with sister brands such as Polestar and Geely, and strengthen its R&D capabilities in China, Volvo Cars and Geely Holding Chairman Li Shufu said on Tuesday.

“Operating in isolation will ultimately lead to self-destruction and elimination,” Li Shufu said at Volvo Cars’ annual general meeting of shareholders, adding that the company last year recorded impairment losses of more than $1 billion.

Li Shufu said the board is actively addressing these challenges and is committed to finding workable solutions as soon as possible.

During the meeting, Li Shufu said that brand strength is still one of Volvo Cars’ most important assets. He said Volvo Cars should adopt proven strategies, such as strengthening its R&D capabilities in China, and leverage China’s intelligent electrification industry foundation.

Li Shufu said the asset impairment Volvo Cars suffered in 2025 highlights the urgency of global cooperation.
