Beijing, March 18 (Xinhua) - Vice Mayor of Beijing, Jin Wei, stated at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on March 18 that international scientific organizations are increasingly gathering and developing in Beijing, with four new international scientific organizations added last year, bringing the total to 53, and Chaoyang District has established the country’s first international scientific organization headquarters cluster.

Jin Wei stated that strengthening international scientific exchange and cooperation, and gathering global innovative elements and resources, is essential for building the Beijing (Jing-Jin-Ji) International Science and Technology Innovation Center.

Beijing is creating a more globally competitive open innovation ecosystem and continuously deepening international exchange and cooperation. Jin Wei said that the international conference on basic sciences held in Beijing every year is gradually becoming a grand event for top scholars worldwide to discuss the future of science. The International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) World Conference 2025, to be held in Beijing, is expected to attract representatives from 97 countries and regions, and the “Zhongguancun Initiative” released will gather the wisdom and consensus of global science parks.

Beijing is deeply promoting global industrial collaboration. Jin Wei indicated that in 2025, the number of newly established foreign-funded enterprises in Beijing is expected to increase by nearly 20% year-on-year, with the total number of foreign-funded R&D centers reaching 332. The University of Cambridge is engaging in innovative cooperation with the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, while the German Steinbeis Technology Transfer Center and the UK P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator are also establishing operations in Beijing. AstraZeneca has set up its sixth global strategic R&D center in the city. Multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly, Sanofi, and Johnson & Johnson are also establishing a presence in Beijing.

Beijing actively participates in global innovation governance and continues to accelerate the construction of world-class scientific journals. Jin Wei stated that in the past three years, over 60 new English scientific journals have been added in Beijing, with ten journals, including “Computational Visual Media,” ranking first in the world in comprehensive impact assessment within their fields.

“Beijing is a fertile ground for technological innovation,” Jin Wei said, adding that Beijing will promote reform through openness and promote development through reform, achieving broader, deeper, and more extensive international exchange and cooperation. (End)
