Recently, Moutai Group’s subsidiary, Moutai Circular Production Investment Company, officially announced its entry into the insect protein pet food sector.
Based on high-quality sauce liquor dregs, its pilot project for the conversion of black soldier flies was fully launched on March 12.
Xie Jun, chairman of Moutai Circular Production Investment Company, stated that this project is a key measure for the company to implement the “14th Five-Year” strategic deployment and incubate future industries.
It is also an important practice in response to the national “dual carbon” strategy and promoting the circular economy upgrade in the liquor industry.
The project aims to steadily promote capacity expansion, optimize the product matrix, and layout new tracks for insect protein and pet feed.
“The project will advance the full industrial chain layout simultaneously, accelerate the completion of technical verification, brand building, and marketing layout for insect protein pet food, striving to achieve official market entry within the year.”

According to Qichacha data, as of March 19, there are 4.8606 million pet food-related enterprises in China,
mainly distributed in East China, South China, and Central China, accounting for nearly 80% collectively.
In terms of establishment years, over 70% of related enterprises were established within the last three years,
with those established between 1-3 years accounting for 45.75%.
In terms of national industry distribution, over 80% of related enterprises belong to the wholesale and retail industry,
followed by scientific research and technical services, accounting for 4.62%.
