【AI+Chip】¿Falta de hardware continua? Escasez de CPU, Intel y AMD han aumentado los precios en varias ocasiones este año en un 10%

After the memory supply shortage, according to Japanese media reports, Intel (US: INTC) and AMD (US: AMD) have notified customers of a price increase for CPUs in March to April. Sources reveal that CPU prices have been raised multiple times this year, with an average increase of 10% to 15%. Delivery cycles have risen from 1-2 weeks to an average of 8-12 weeks, and in some cases, a wait of 6 months is required.

Japanese media states that computer manufacturers like HP (US: HPQ) and Dell (US: DELL) have discovered a “gap” between the number of CPUs they need and the actual quantity obtained since the end of February.

Reports indicate that Intel and AMD are ramping up production. Intel is working hard to increase internal chip production capacity, but it still requires time and is limited by the supply of chip substrates. AMD, on the other hand, has outsourced chip manufacturing to foundries like TSMC (US: TSMC) and Samsung, and therefore needs to compete for capacity with Nvidia (US: NVDA) and Google (US: GOOGL).

The CPU shortage is due to the rapid increase in AI demand, driving up the demand for general-purpose servers and storage servers, both of which require CPUs. Industry insiders indicate that the growth rate of general-purpose servers this year is 15%, while Intel’s production expansion rate is only in single digits, leading to a severe supply-demand imbalance.
