La compañía petrolera de la India compra gas licuado de petróleo de Irán por primera vez desde 2018

According to informed sources, Indian Oil Corporation has purchased liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran for the first time in nearly eight years. The outbreak of war in the Middle East has exacerbated the country’s shortage of this essential cooking fuel.

Sources who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the transaction said that the refinery will share this shipment with other state-owned refining companies such as Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.

According to data intelligence firm Kpler, the last time Indian Oil Corporation purchased LPG from Iran was in June 2018. Currently, this shipment contains approximately 43,000 tons of butane and propane.

LPG is widely used as cooking fuel in India, and this shipment is only enough to meet half a day’s demand in the country. About two-thirds of India’s LPG is imported, with 90% coming from the Middle East, primarily transported through the Strait of Hormuz, which has effectively been blocked since the outbreak of war with Iran.

Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum did not respond to emails seeking comment. Reuters previously reported that India has purchased LPG from Iran for the first time in years.
