Recently, anonymous X user Cprkrn told MTS in an interview that he had set up a highly complex multi-layer password on Blockchain.info in his early years, which he modified multiple times, and one set of passwords was completely forgotten.

Cprkrn revealed that over the past eight weeks, he tried to use AI to brute-force trillions of password combinations, but made no progress.

Then at the beginning of this week, with a last-ditch effort mindset, he organized all his handwritten notes from university, old laptops, and other materials, and handed them over to Claude for analysis and retrieval. Ultimately, AI helped him recover the forgotten old password and a key wallet backup file, allowing him to successfully unlock the Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant for many years.

So, how did Cprkrn manage to recover his Bitcoin with the help of Claude?

这场助记词搜寻历时八周。Claude 全程帮他检索梳理海量资料，包括两台 Mac 设备、两块外置硬盘、苹果备忘录导出文档、iCloud 邮件、Gmail 收件箱及 X 平台聊天记录，累计分析超过 1GB 数据。

This seed phrase search took eight weeks. Claude assisted him throughout the process, retrieving and organizing massive amounts of data, including two Mac devices, two external hard drives, exported notes from Apple Notes, iCloud emails, Gmail inbox, and X platform chat records, analyzing over 1GB of data in total.

其中一台是他大学时期使用的旧电脑，Claude 在里面找到了一份 2019 年 12 月的关键钱包备份文件。

One of these was his old computer used during university, where Claude found a key wallet backup file from December 2019.

Later, with Claude’s help, Cprkrn deduced the password based on memory clues from his handwritten notes, successfully decrypted the backup file, and ultimately extracted the seed phrase for the dormant wallet, successfully unlocking a Bitcoin.

Although Cprkrn did not directly show the process evidence of Claude’s retrieval device, he shared a Blockchain.com block explorer link: wallet address 14VJy…ofuE6, which transferred about 5 Bitcoins in 5 transactions on May 13.

On-chain records show that this batch of Bitcoins has been dormant since early 2015, with a sleep time of over ten years.

This recovery process was not instant. Before success, Claude tested over 35 trillion passwords. It first used the open-source seed phrase recovery tool BTCRecover and Python scripts to brute-force approximately 34 billion combinations, but to no avail.

随后又借助密码破解工具 Hashcat，继续测试 3.4 万亿组密码，结构都失败了。

Then, using the password cracking tool Hashcat, it continued testing 3.4 trillion passwords, but all attempts failed.

Throughout this massive search and password trial, it only cost $15 in AI computing power, and Claude had reconstructed the entire recovery process.

Although Cprkrn successfully recovered the Bitcoin, many in the crypto community believe that the individual exaggerated Claude’s actual role. Some point out that Claude only assisted in file retrieval and organization, not directly cracking the wallet, and thus it is not a groundbreaking technological feat.

Reddit 用户 MeteorSwarmGallifrey 在科技板块留言表示：「Claude 从头到尾只是帮他翻找整理文件，并没有做出任何开创性的破解行为。」

Reddit user MeteorSwarmGallifrey commented in the tech section: “Claude was only helping him search and organize files from start to finish, without performing any groundbreaking cracking actions.”
