I. What Is the Gate Account Protection Plan?

The Gate Account Protection Plan (the "Plan") is an account security protection mechanism operated by the platform. If assets are transferred out of your Gate account by someone else without your authorization, you may apply for compensation for direct asset losses that meet the Plan's rules.

The Plan is not an insurance product and does not constitute an insurance contract or any form of insurance arrangement, nor does it constitute a commitment to compensation. Only security incidents that comply with the Plan's rules are eligible for compensation. Whether compensation is granted and the compensation amount are subject to the platform's final review.

II. How to Activate

You can apply to activate the Plan on the Gate Account Protection Plan page. Activation is free and requires no payment.

To activate the Plan, your account must meet all of the following requirements at the same time:

  • A Security Score of 80 or above.

  • Completed KYC Level 2 identity verification.

  • Completed the security verification required by the Plan.

  • Your account is in normal status.

  • Compliance with the platform's risk control, regional, and regulatory requirements.

III. When Does the Plan Take Effect?

After you activate the Plan, your account enters a security hardening period, but the Plan's protection is not yet in effect. Once your Security Score remains at 80 or above for 30 consecutive days, your account enters Protection Active status. Only incidents that occur while your account is in Protection Active status and that comply with the Plan's rules are eligible for compensation. Consecutive qualifying days are counted only during the security hardening period. If the Plan is paused and your Security Score recovers to 80 or above within the specified period, your account re-enters the security hardening period and the count restarts from day 0. If the Plan ends, you need to activate it again and start counting anew. Being eligible to apply for compensation does not guarantee that compensation will be granted; the final decision is subject to the Plan's rules and the platform's review.

Security hardening period
After activation, your account enters the security hardening period, and protection is not yet in effect. Incidents that occur during this period are not eligible for compensation. After your Security Score remains at 80 or above for 30 consecutive days, your account enters Protection Active status.

Protection Active
Only incidents that occur while your account is in this status and that meet the eligibility criteria can be considered for compensation. The specific rules of the Plan apply.

Plan Paused
If your Security Score drops below 80, the Plan is paused, and incidents during this period are not eligible for compensation. If your Security Score recovers to 80 or above within 48 hours, you will re-enter the 30-day security hardening period.

Plan Ended
If your Security Score has not recovered to 80 or above within 48 hours after the pause, the Plan ends. After you reactivate the Plan, you will enter another 30-day security hardening period.

Changes that weaken your security protections (for example, disabling a security feature) will reset your consecutive qualifying days to 0. Changes that strengthen your security protections will not affect the count.

IV. Scope of Application

1. Applicable Situations

For an unauthorized asset transfer, all of the following conditions must be met:

  • It is verified that another person accessed your account and completed the operation without your authorization.

  • The loss is directly caused by an asset transfer via withdrawal, including on-chain withdrawals, GatePush, and GateCode.

  • If you have set a withdrawal or trading limit, only the portion of the asset transfer that exceeds the limit falls within the scope of the Plan.

If the operation was initiated or confirmed by you, it does not constitute an unauthorized operation, even if you were deceived, induced, impersonated, or coerced.

2. Non-Applicable Situations

The following situations are not covered by the Plan, including but not limited to:

1) Operations initiated or authorized by you

  • Transactions initiated, confirmed, or actively participated in by you.

  • Asset transfer or trading losses that you initiated or confirmed yourself after being deceived, induced, impersonated, or coerced.

  • Asset transfer losses caused by personal operational errors, such as entering the wrong address or selecting the wrong chain.

2) Losses resulting from voluntarily sharing account or device access

  • You voluntarily or knowingly provided another person with your account, password, verification code, fund password, security verification tool, or device access.

  • Operations or losses resulting from your use of tools such as remote control or screen sharing.

3) Transfers that did not trigger additional security verification

  • Transfers completed via verification-exempt addresses, password-free withdrawals, or the small-amount verification exemption feature.

  • Transfers completed within the withdrawal or trading limits you set, including daily limits.

4) Products or services not covered by the Plan

  • Asset transfers from Web3 wallets or cross-exchange accounts.

  • Withdrawals or transactions initiated via API or Agent.

  • Losses arising from Red Packets, tips, GatePay purchases, Gift Cards, stock transfers, GateCard, GateConnect, or C2C (P2P) trading.

  • Institutional, corporate, market maker, brokerage, or OTC accounts, as well as accounts operated on behalf of third parties.

  • Other products, features, or withdrawal channels that are marked on the Plan page as not covered by the Plan.

5) Losses from trading or price changes

  • Trading losses caused by market volatility, trading decisions, leverage, contracts, or forced liquidation.

  • There were only trades, conversions, or changes in asset prices within your account, and no funds were actually transferred out of the platform.

  • If the unauthorized transfer amount exceeds the withdrawal or trading limit you set, only the portion exceeding the limit will be reviewed under the Plan. The portion within the limit is not covered by the Plan. Whether compensation is granted and the compensation amount are subject to the review result and the per-incident compensation cap.

3. Situations Not Eligible for Compensation

You will not be eligible for compensation if any of the following circumstances apply:

  • At the time of the incident, the Plan was not yet in effect, was in the security hardening period or paused status, or had already ended.

  • You had set a trading or withdrawal limit, and the related transaction or withdrawal was completed within the limit.

  • The cause or amount of the loss cannot be verified.

  • The compensation claim covers indirect losses, expected gains, or opportunity losses.

  • The KYC-verified identity of the account does not match the actual user.

  • There is any illegal activity, fraud, false declaration, abuse of the Plan, or other violation of platform rules related to the incident or the compensation claim.

V. Compensation Eligibility

1. To be eligible for compensation, you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • At the time of the incident, the affected account was in Protection Active status.

  • For the 30 consecutive days before the incident, your Security Score was no lower than 80, and your critical security settings continuously met the Plan's requirements.

  • The incident falls within the Plan's scope and does not fall under any Non-Applicable Situation.

  • The loss is a verifiable direct asset loss.

  • You submit a compensation application within 45 days of the incident.

  • You file a report with your local law enforcement authorities within 45 days of the incident and provide the platform with a copy of the report in English.

  • The account's identity verification information is authentic and valid, and the verified identity matches the actual user.

  • The account is in normal status and has not been blacklisted.

  • You truthfully provide all required materials and cooperate with the platform's investigation, asset tracing, and other necessary work.

  • You take prompt action to protect your account after detecting the abnormality and take reasonable measures to prevent further losses.

2. At least 30 days before the incident, the following security settings must have been continuously in place and unchanged during that period:

  • Passkey enabled.

  • Google Authenticator bound.

  • Email bound.

  • Phone number bound.

  • Two-Step Login enabled.

  • Anti-phishing code enabled.

  • Fund password set.

  • API write permission disabled.

  • Alpha trading disabled.

  • C2C limit set.

  • On-chain withdrawal limit set.

  • The relevant device is not jailbroken, does not have Root or the highest system privileges, has not been flashed with an unofficial system, and has not otherwise bypassed or disabled the operating system's security protections.

Meeting the above conditions does not guarantee compensation. Eligibility and the compensation amount are subject to the platform's final review.

VI. Compensation Amount and Compensation Cap

All compensation applications are subject to the platform's review. The amounts below are the maximum compensation caps and do not guarantee that you will receive the corresponding amount.

1. Per-Incident Compensation Cap

  • The compensation cap for each incident is cryptocurrency equivalent to $200,000.

  • The master account and all sub-accounts under the same verified identity (KYC) share the per-incident compensation cap.

  • Multiple abnormal transactions caused by the same reason, the same attack chain, or otherwise related to each other may be combined and treated as a single incident by the platform.

2. Lifetime Cumulative Compensation Cap

The master account and all sub-accounts under the same verified identity (KYC) share a lifetime cumulative compensation cap equal to 2 times the per-incident compensation cap.

3. How Are Master Accounts and Sub-Accounts Counted?

Whether the master account and each sub-account meet the Plan's activation and effectiveness requirements is determined separately:

  • The account from which the transfer actually occurred is the relevant account.

  • That account must be in Protection Active status at the time of the incident.

  • The per-incident compensation cap and the cumulative compensation cap are shared by the master account and all sub-accounts under the same verified identity (KYC).

4. How Is the Compensation Amount Calculated?

1) The compensation amount is based on the verified net direct asset loss determined by the platform and is subject to the final review result:

  • The value of the loss is calculated using the Gate spot price at the time each asset transfer occurred. If multiple transfers occurred, each transfer is valued separately.

  • Assets that have been recovered, frozen, returned, or can be restored are not included in the net direct asset loss.

  • The compensation amount for each incident cannot exceed the per-incident compensation cap.

  • The platform may, at its discretion, provide compensation in the originally lost tokens or in other tokens of equivalent value. All compensation is credited to your Gate account and is not paid to external addresses, bank accounts, or third parties, and no interest is paid.

  • If you fail to take reasonable measures to freeze or restrict your account in a timely manner after the incident, resulting in additional losses, the expanded portion of the loss will not be compensated.

2) The actual compensation amount is the lowest of the following three values:

  • The verified net direct asset loss.

  • The remaining available compensation cap for this incident.

  • The remaining lifetime cumulative compensation cap under the same verified identity (KYC).

VII. Applying for Compensation

If you notice any abnormal activity on your account, contact security support immediately for assistance in freezing your account and minimizing further losses.

Application Process

  • Contact Customer Support
Contact Gate customer support within 45 days of the incident, explain the abnormal situation, and submit preliminary materials.

  • Platform Review
The platform reviews the application information and makes an initial determination of whether it meets the compensation application requirements.

  • Investigation and Verification

  • The platform verifies the cause of the incident, account operations, device environment, asset flow, and other relevant information.

  • Assessment and Processing

  • The platform will notify you of the outcome based on the verification results, including whether you meet the compensation conditions and the final compensation amount. If eligible, compensation will be completed.

The processing time depends on the complexity of the incident and the completeness of the materials. Submitting an application does not guarantee compensation. The final result is subject to the platform's review.

VIII. FAQ

Does the Plan have a fixed term?

No. The Plan's duration is determined by your Security Score. As long as your Security Score is 80 or above, the Plan has no fixed term. If it falls below 80, the Plan will be paused or ended.

Will protection take effect immediately once my Security Score returns to 80?

No. After the Plan is paused, even if your Security Score recovers to 80, you will need to re-enter the 30-day security hardening period, and the qualifying day count restarts from 0. Your account will enter Protection Active status only after your Security Score remains at 80 or above for 30 consecutive days.

Can I apply for compensation for losses incurred during the security hardening period or a pause?

No. Only incidents that occur while your account is in Protection Active status and that meet the Plan's rules are eligible for compensation.

If my master account is active, will my sub-accounts automatically become active?

No. The activation eligibility and Plan status of master and sub-accounts are determined independently. Each account must be activated separately because security settings are independent for each account.

Are the compensation caps for master and sub-accounts calculated separately?

No. The master account and all sub-accounts under the same KYC share the per-incident compensation cap and the lifetime cumulative compensation cap.

Can I apply if I confirmed the transfer after being scammed?

No. Transactions and transfers authorized, confirmed, or initiated by the user, including those made under fraud, inducement, impersonation, or coercion, do not qualify as losses caused by another person's unauthorized control of the account.

Can I still contact customer support after the Plan is paused or ended?

Yes. Please contact customer support as soon as possible and submit your materials. Whether you are eligible for compensation is still determined by the Plan's status at the time of the incident and the review result.
