Odaily Planet Daily Reported that Axios stated that Trump had previously claimed multiple times that an agreement was close to being reached, but Tehran has not confirmed his latest statement. However, three sources familiar with the negotiations briefed that during talks on Wednesday between Iranian officials and Qatari mediators, key disagreements had been resolved. The negotiations in Tehran continued until late Wednesday night, with Qatari envoy Ali Sawadi and Iranian Foreign Minister Alaraji working to bridge the remaining differences between the US and Iran.

Sources said that both Qatar and Iran believed on Wednesday that they had reached a draft agreement acceptable to the United States. The two sides had narrowed disagreements on three key issues: the mechanism for releasing Iranian frozen assets — the most important issue for Iran; arrangements for reopening the Strait of Hormuz within the 60-day ceasefire period; and how to conduct negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program within the 60-day ceasefire period.

Iranian officials told multiple countries on Thursday that Tehran had reached a principled agreement in the talks, but Supreme Leader Muje Tabah still needed to give final approval. (Jin Shi)
