Mars Finance news, June 21, according to CNN, George Washington University Middle East Studies Program Director Sina Azodi stated that although both the US and Iran claim the other side is violating rules, both the United States and Iran have sent senior officials to Switzerland for negotiations because both sides have "vested interests" in ending the conflict. Azodi pointed out that Israel's attack on Lebanon is a violation of the memorandum for Iran, and the US may also interpret Tehran's claim to close the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the understanding memorandum. Azodi also said that Tehran might want to "test and see" whether Washington can restrain Israel and end hostilities in Lebanon. As of the time of writing, Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif and Army Chief Munir have arrived in Switzerland to participate in technical US-Iran negotiations under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
