CALL FOR APPLICATIONS | The South Africa Reserve Bank and BIS Launch the 2025 G20 TechSprint Seeking Tech Solutions for Pressing Problems

The South African Reserve Bank and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has launched the 2025 G20 Techsprint global competition.

The G20 TechSprint 2025 is now inviting innovators worldwide to develop cutting-edge solutions that enhance trust and integrity in scalable and open financial systems. This international competition seeks to address key challenges in the financial sector.

According to Agustín Carstens, General Manager of the BIS:

“The G20 TechSprint is more than a competition. It is a collaborative effort to redefine the future of finance. Our collective challenge is clear: to develop scalable, adaptable, and inclusive solutions that reinforce trust and integrity across borders.

The themes of South Africa’s presidency – solidarity, equality, and sustainability – should inspire us to break down barriers and forge partnerships that have lasting global impact.”

Focus Areas:

Participants are encouraged to submit proposals addressing one of the following problem statements:


• Verifiable and Privacy-Preserving Digital Identity Solutions: Develop systems that ensure secure and private digital identification to enhance financial inclusion and reduce fraud.
• Consumer-Consented and Secure Credit Data Exchange: Create platforms that allow consumers to share credit data securely, fostering transparency and trust.
• Technology Solutions for Fraud and Cyber Risk Mitigation: Innovate tools to detect and prevent fraud, enhancing the security of financial transactions.

Awards:

• Each winning team will receive a prize of USD 30,000
• All shortlisted teams will be awarded a stipend of USD 5,000
• Gain exposure to global regulators and industry experts
