Article 92 of the new Electoral Act 2026 in Nigeria and its other subsections have been approved:...👇

1. The presidential candidate in Nigeria can spend up to 10 billion Naira, meaning they should not spend more than 10 billion Naira on their campaign.
2. The law states that a gubernatorial candidate can spend up to three billion Naira, meaning they should not spend more than that from the start of their candidacy until the end, such as in the 2027 election.
3. The law approves that a senatorial candidate can spend up to 500 million Naira, but not more than that.
4. It is approved that a Reps candidate can spend up to 250 million Naira.
Additionally, the law allows an individual to contribute up to 500 million Naira, especially for presidential and gubernatorial candidates.
If a candidate spends more than the amount stipulated by law, they will be imprisoned for one year.
Similarly, if a candidate accepts financial contributions exceeding 500 million Naira from a single person, they will be imprisoned for one year or fined one percent of the amount received, or both, including imprisonment and a fine.
Under the old Electoral Act 2022, only 5 billion Naira was approved for a presidential candidate to spend, now it is 10 billion Naira.
In that law, a person could only contribute up to 50 million Naira, now it has been increased to 500 million Naira.
God bless Nigeria.
If this is followed, it is expected that each state’s presidential candidate will spend about 270 million Naira, assuming equal distribution.
Hmmm, just the convoy alone, with the aircrafts arriving in the state, the major hotels to be booked, the cars to be paid for, posters and billboards—you know, it’s just about 10 billion Naira for the presidential candidate.
