Wu Shuo Huozhi, according to China News Network, the People's Procuratorate of Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, recently filed a public prosecution for a Bitcoin theft case.
At the end of 2020, Wang entrusted Lin to cash out his Bitcoin holdings and agreed to pay a reward, but Lin used manipulation of Wang's Bitcoin wallet hard drive to steal the wallet's "key" and related data, transferring 4 Bitcoins to his own name and selling them gradually, illegally profiting about 900,000 yuan.
In 2024, after Wang discovered the loss of assets and reported the case, Lin was subsequently arrested.
Prosecutors stated that although national documents clearly state that virtual currencies do not have the status of legal tender, Bitcoin meets the general characteristics of property under criminal law and is an object of property crime.
Lin was sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in prison and fined 300,000 yuan; Lin appealed, and the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court ruled to dismiss the appeal and uphold the original judgment.
