OPPO's Mother's Day marketing campaign backfired, originally telling the story of a fangirl’s emotional needs, but people pointed out that it seemed to promote extramarital affairs.


The controversial content was: "My mom has two 'husbands', one is my dad, and the other she sees twice a year. She hardly dresses up when dating my dad, but with the other, she’s eager to wear a wedding dress."
Some netizens believed that the values conveyed by the campaign were incorrect; others stated that the content was just a "joke."
Now, OPPO has apologized and withdrawn the campaign. But in a highly polarized public opinion environment regarding gender issues, the company's actions have not quelled the controversy.
Previously, a fangirl coincidentally met her idol Jackson Wang on her wedding day, jokingly calling him her real husband, which sparked widespread online discussion, and even a bride requested her groom to wear a standee and mask of the idol for wedding photos.
Of course, fans think there's no problem with calling an idol "husband," but the issue is that OPPO's target audience for marketing is not connected to fan circles at all...
