Golden Finance reports that on May 31, SoftBank pledged a maximum investment of 75 billion euros to build a large-scale artificial intelligence computing cluster network in France, which will become the largest data center project in Europe. This is also SoftBank's largest single AI investment outside the United States. Sources say that in early April this year, after French President Macron had dinner with Masayoshi Son in Tokyo, both parties quickly finalized this cooperation. SoftBank will initially lead an investment of 45 billion euros, planning to establish a 3.1 gigawatt computing capacity in the Upper Normandy region by 2031, with plans to add an additional 2 gigawatts of capacity later. One of the core facilities of the project will be located in Dunkirk, where SoftBank will partner with Schneider Electric to create an AI infrastructure and robotics manufacturing center. The area has a favorable geographical location, capable of serving clients in London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and other cities. The total planned computing capacity of the entire project is 5 gigawatts. If fully completed, SoftBank's total investment will reach approximately 75 billion euros.
