Golden Finance report, April 30th, 725 billion USD — this is the total capex limit for the four tech giants Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon this year.
Behind the “aggressive acceleration” of capital expenditure, each giant has to face hardware infrastructure constraints and rising costs: Microsoft stated that out of 190 billion USD in capital expenditure, 25 billion USD is used to cope with component price increases; Google announced that this quarter’s capital spending is 35.7 billion USD, including real estate, servers, data centers, and other infrastructure; Meta attributes the increase in capital expenditure to higher hardware component prices this year and the additional data center costs needed to support future capacity.
Jefferies technology analyst said: “What we see are bottlenecks across the board. Those large-scale cloud service providers either need to wait or have to pay higher costs to enter. This is good for the ‘shovel sellers,’ but not beneficial for companies that need to integrate all links.” (Dongxin News)
