Golden Finance reports that on April 29th, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) under the U.S. Department of the Treasury released an explanatory document on the 28th stating that the United States prohibits its citizens or entities from paying the Strait of Hormuz transit fees to Iran.
The document states that including U.S. individuals, U.S. financial institutions, and all or controlled foreign entities, they are not allowed to pay the Strait of Hormuz transit fees directly or indirectly to the Iranian government or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control indicated that non-U.S. individuals or entities paying the Strait of Hormuz transit fees to Iran also pose significant sanctions risks.
Due to sanctions related to nuclear non-proliferation and counter-terrorism imposed by the U.S. on the Iranian government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, foreign financial institutions and other non-U.S. individuals or entities engaging in certain transactions or activities with sanctioned parties will face sanctions risks.
Transactions involving some sectors of the Iranian economy may also expose foreign individuals or entities to sanctions risks.
On the same day, the Office of Foreign Assets Control also added 17 foreigners and 18 foreign entities to the sanctions list related to Iran.
