Mars Finance news, according to Reuters, Zimbabwe's Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube announced new regulations requiring all cryptocurrency businesses engaged in virtual asset trading, transfers, or custody to register annually with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), an anti-money laundering agency under the central bank, and pay a $500 annual fee. Operations without registration will be considered illegal. The new regulation provides the first specific regulatory rule for the local crypto market, which has long lacked a legal framework and mainly operates over-the-counter and on social media. Zimbabwe previously banned financial institutions from participating in cryptocurrency transactions in 2018. Due to hyperinflation and multiple currency reforms, the public turned to digital assets like Bitcoin and cross-border remittances, driving a surge in crypto usage.
