Cross-chain, are you really trusting the chain, or just trusting a bunch of people who "seem very decentralized"?

The more I look at it, the more I think that IBC and various message passing are essentially just hiding the "trust chain" deeper: trusting the finality of the source chain (consensus can fail), trusting the light client/verification logic (don't write the code crooked), trusting the relay/transfer path (don't get stuck, don't feed fake messages), and also trusting how the target chain handles this message (permissions, rollbacks, upgrades).
Bridges are even more straightforward, with validators/multisig/oracles/administrator permissions—any weak link can make assets appear out of thin air.

Recently, some places have increased taxes and tightened compliance, causing deposit and withdrawal expectations to shift, and everyone prefers to take various "shortcuts" to cross chains...
Anyway, I don't dare to take shortcuts; if I can avoid crossing, I avoid crossing. If I really have to, I split into different wallets, small amounts, and go slowly—at least I can sleep peacefully.
