About Moonbeam Network (GLMR)
Moonbeam is an EVM compatible blockchain running as a parallel chain on the Polkadot network. Compatibility with EVM allows Ethereum based applications to be deployed on Moonbeam. The network provides developers with the functions of deploying Solidity smart contracts, Web3 compatible APIs, oracle machine data, and Ethernet bridge. GLMR is a functional and governance token of Moonbeam, with the following use cases: transaction fees: users can use GLMR to pay transaction fees and execute smart contracts. Mortgage: Users can mortgage GLMR to become validators or commission, participate in online consensus, and receive rewards from GLMR. Governance: GLMR token holders can nominate council members and participate in online voting. Liquidity mining: Provide liquidity for decentralized exchanges (DEX) established on the Moonbeam blockchain to earn some exchange fees. Moonbeam consists of the following main components: Polkadot: Polkadot aims to assist in cross chain communication and operational interoperability. Moonbeam is the Polkadot ecosystem version of Moonriver (MOVR) in the Kusama ecosystem. Parallel chain: Parallel chain is an independent blockchain (Shards) that can be connected to Polkadot. Crowdfunding loan: It is a method of raising funds for a parallel chain slot on the Polkadot network. Users temporarily lock their DOT in exchange for rewards from the project team, usually in the form of the project's native token. Slot Auction: To operate as a parallel chain project on Polkadot, one must win a slot in the parallel chain auction. Moonbeam won the spot for the second slot auction through crowdfunding, starting on December 17, 2021, for a period of 96 weeks. The project raised~36MM of DOT tokens from contributors of~200K in crowdfunding loans for Moonbeam parallel chain slot auctions.
