The US-Iran ceasefire negotiations stall, Iran unwilling to meet, Qatar refuses to act as mediator

Golden Finance reports that on April 4, according to The Wall Street Journal, officials and mediators familiar with the matter said that Qatar has refused to act as the key intermediary in potential ceasefire talks between the U.S. and Iran, making efforts to find a path toward negotiations more complicated. Sources said that last week, Qatar informed U.S. officials that it has no intention of playing a key role in the mediation or leading related work. Mediators said earlier on Friday local time that the latest round of efforts by regional countries led by Pakistan to bring about a U.S.-Iran ceasefire has reached a stalemate. The mediators said that Iran has formally told the mediators that in the coming days it does not want to meet with U.S. officials in Islamabad, and that the U.S. demands are unacceptable. Mediators also said that Turkey and Egypt are still working to find a way forward and are considering new locations for talks, including Doha, the capital of Qatar, or Istanbul, while also considering new proposals to break the stalemate. In addition, according to Iranian media Fars News, sources said that Iran has rejected a 48-hour ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States.
