Trump is willing to end the Iran war even if the Strait of Hormuz is closed.
Golden Finance News reports, on March 31, according to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. government officials said that President Trump had told his staff that even if the Strait of Hormuz was still essentially closed, he was willing to end U.S. military operations against Iran. This could extend Tehran’s firm control of the waterway and leave the re-opening of the strait—this complex operation—for later handling. In recent days, Trump and his staff assessed that the mission to clear this choke point would cause the conflict to go beyond his set four- to six-week timetable. Trump has decided that the United States should achieve the main goal of weakening Iran’s naval and missile inventories, gradually end the current hostilities, and at the same time pressure Iran through diplomatic channels, demanding the restoration of free trade. Officials said that if this fails, Washington would pressure Europe and allies in the Gulf region to take the lead in re-opening the strait. They said Trump could also choose a military option, but it is not his current priority. (Jin10)
