Golden Finance reported that on April 3, DefiLlama data showed that in the first quarter of 2026, crypto hackers stole more than $168.6 million in cryptocurrency from 34 decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, a sharp decline compared with the same period last year.
The data shows that in January, the $40 million StepFinance private key leak incident was the largest security vulnerability of the quarter, followed closely by a smart contract manipulation incident that led to $26.4 million worth of Ether being stolen. On January 8, Truebit suffered a major security vulnerability incident. The third-largest security vulnerability incident was a private key leak targeting the stablecoin issuer ResolvLabs on March 21.
