On March 9, 2025, one of the biggest changes in the global financial system comes into effect: ISO 20022 will become mandatory for all banks and financial institutions worldwide. Fedwire is implementing it there, and Swift in November 2025. This means that the old MT message system from SWIFT will be finally replaced by the more modern, efficient, and data-oriented ISO 20022 format.
But what does this mean for XRP?

Why is ISO 20022 so important?
ISO 20022 is the single global standard for financial transaction messages that enables banks and payment services to operate faster, more securely, and with more data. While the old SWIFT system (MT) contained limited information, ISO 20022 allows for detailed, structured, and standardized data.
For banks, this means:

How will this affect XRP and Ripple?
Ripple is one of the few blockchain companies that are already compatible with ISO 20022. RippleNet can directly work with the new standard and offers a fast, cost-effective alternative to SWIFT. According to unconfirmed data, SWIFT will cooperate with Ripple. XRP as a currency bridge can and will become important, especially for cross-border transactions and liquidity solutions.
