OpenAI has released the AI video generator Sora

OpenAI has released a new tool called Sora to the public. Users can create videos based on text prompts, bring images to life, expand existing videos, and fill in missing frames.

The Sora neural network was introduced in February, but initially only a few could use it. Now it is open to users in the US and “most countries in the world” with Pro and Plus subscriptions.

The exact launch dates of the tool in Europe, the UK, and some other countries have not been announced.

The presented version is called Sora Turbo. It can generate video clips ranging from five to 20 seconds in various resolutions.

During a live stream on YouTube, CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman demonstrated the Blend feature, which merges two scenes together.

“This is an early version of Sora. It is not perfect and makes mistakes. However, we believe it is at a stage where it is truly useful for strengthening human creativity,” noted OpenAI technical specialist Will Piblz.

Access to Sora is limited. To create a video, you need credits, the amount of which gradually decreases depending on the resolution and duration of the video. Plus and Pro subscriptions provide 1,000 and 10,000 credits per month. A video in 480p resolution will cost 20-150 credits, and 1080p will cost 100-2000 credits.

Sora credits vary by resolution and duration, with ChatGPT Plus and Pro plans providing 1,000 and 10,000 credits respectively, resetting monthly without rollover.

Loans do not accumulate—when new ones are charged, old ones are canceled.

Recall, in November, several testers uploaded to the Hugging Face platform Sora, which had not yet been officially introduced at that time, as a sign of protest.

In August, it became known that Alibaba is working on Tora, a tool for generating video based on a solution from OpenAI.
