Apple and A24 have a Sam Bankman-Fried biopic in the works
Apple Studios and A24 are working on a movie about former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, adapted from the best-selling Michael Lewis book ‘Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon.’
According to a Variety report, Apple Studios and A24 will co-develop and co-produce a film about Michael Lewis’ book “Going Infinite” which explores the success and downfall of the crypto exchange FTX and its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried.
Lena Dunham is reportedly going to write the script for the movie adaption. Dunham is best known for creating, starring in, directing, and executive producing the HBO series “Girls,” which she received eight Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe for.
In September 2023, Apple paid $5 million for the rights to Michael Lewis’ book about Sam Bankman-Fried, a month before it was even released. Lewis reportedly witnessed the rise and fall of SBF in real time as he spent 12 months glued to the former crypto billionaire’s side.
Aside from A24 and Apple’s biopic, there are eight known Hollywood projects in the works based around SBF.
According to Variety, Amazon is also commissioning a limited series about FTX’s collapse that is set to consist of eight episodes and produced by the Russo brothers’ company AGBO. Amazon Prime series “Hunters” creator David Weil is set to write the pilot and executive produce it, while an inside source says the Russos are in talks to direct.
Another SBF-based project reportedly in the works is a profile documentary by Nanette Burstein, director of the 2020 documentary film “Hillary” based on former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The CEO and co-founder of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, was once a prominent figure in the crypto industry before the crypto exchange collapsed in 2022. Bankman-Fried was convicted of multiple charges, including campaign finance violations, money laundering, securities fraud, and wire fraud.
On March 28, 2024, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to forfeit $11 billion for his crimes. Bankman-Fried is currently serving his sentence in a federal prison facility since last year.
