Vitalik Buterin said the market predicts that AI could help the Community Notes feature on X operate faster

Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, believes that artificial intelligence and predictive market technology could accelerate the production process of Community Notes features on the X media platform.

Community Notes is a feature of X that allows users to add context to potentially confusing posts. Contributors can leave a “note” on posts and if enough contributors rate the note as helpful, it will be publicly displayed below the post.

Speaking at the Korea Blockchain Week 2024, Buterin said that while these notes are helpful, the biggest criticism of Community Notes is that they “do not appear quickly enough”, which can lead to misunderstandings before the notes appear.

The prediction market can help other mechanisms be faster

Buterin further stated that providing context for posts through Community Notes is too slow. However, the co-founder of Ethereum argues that a solution can be found through prediction markets.

The prediction market is an open market that allows users to bet on specific outcomes. One example that Buterin cited is the decentralized prediction platform Polymarket, where people bet on hotly debated topics such as politics, sports, and cryptocurrencies.

“The market predicts that similar to the basic block, it can make other mechanisms faster. […] Developers can take advantage of some existing mechanisms, and then create something much faster”.

You said that whenever a post is created, there may be a question to determine whether the post guarantees the Community Note feature. People can use large AI language models and bots to bet small amounts on this prediction market.

Buterin believes this could accelerate the process of discovering truth and serve as a mechanism to incentivize participant attraction.
