ME News Report, April 16 (UTC+8), International Energy Agency (IEA) Director Fatih Birol said Thursday in an interview that Europe’s aviation fuel “may only have about 6 weeks or so” of supply remaining, and warned that if oil supplies continue to be disrupted due to the Iran war, “flights could be canceled soon.” He called the Strait of Hormuz crisis the “largest energy crisis in history.” Birol stated, “There was a band called ‘Terror Strait’ in the past. Now it has become a real ‘Terror Strait,’ which will have a significant impact on the global economy. The longer this situation persists, the greater the negative impact on global economic growth and inflation.” Birol said this will drive up gasoline, natural gas, and electricity prices, with countries dependent on Middle Eastern energy, including Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, being the first to be affected, followed by Europe and the United States. If the strait remains closed, some flights in Europe may be canceled due to fuel shortages. (Source: ODaily)
