Pakistan opens the banking sector to digital currencies on a limited basis after an 8-year ban!

The Pakistani central bank announced that it will allow banks to open accounts for licensed companies in the field of digital currencies, in a move that ends a ban imposed since 2018.

Banks are required to verify licenses, while keeping customer funds in separate, non-interest-bearing accounts denominated in rupees.

Banks also remain responsible for the necessary auditing procedures and are prohibited from using customer funds to hold digital currencies.
