I noticed an interesting deal that shows how quickly the game is changing in the media industry. Netflix acquired an AI company called InterPositive, founded by Ben Affleck, and the deal is roughly $600 million. This is the maximum, considering conditional payments — the actual initial amount was lower.
What's notable is that Affleck created this company specifically as a tool for directors. The technology works with already shot footage, allowing users to remove unwanted objects from a scene, change backgrounds, or completely re-edit scenes without reshooting. No content generation from scratch — just working with existing material. This is an important point.
David Fincher has already used their tools while working on a film with Brad Pitt. So, the technology is already in active use, not just a concept on paper.
Netflix clearly sees this as a tool to accelerate content production and reduce costs. Amazon and Disney are also actively moving toward AI — building their own teams, forming partnerships with OpenAI. The industry is definitely experiencing a moment of transformation.
Interestingly, Affleck founded InterPositive with the support of RedBird Capital Partners. Several years of development, followed by attracting investments in 2025, and now Netflix is willing to pay such money. His wealth as an entrepreneur has clearly grown thanks to this project — he recognized the trend earlier than others and created a solution that the industry has been waiting for.
At the same time, creative professionals in Hollywood are nervous. They fear that studios will massively cut jobs and train models on other people's materials without compensation. This is a real problem that has not yet been solved.
But the fact remains — huge sums of money are flowing into AI tools for media. The trend is clearly gaining momentum.
