I just reviewed how much they actually earn in the Mexican Army, and the truth is that some ranks earn quite well. It turns out that a basic soldier receives around 18,840 pesos per month, but if you advance in the military hierarchy, the numbers change quite a bit.
The interesting thing is that there are significant differences depending on the rank. A corporal earns just a bit more, about 19,548 pesos, while sergeants range between 20 and 21 thousand pesos. But if you want to see a real jump in income, the salary of a second lieutenant in the army is approximately 24,500 pesos per month, and lieutenants already exceed 25,000.
Now, if we talk about higher ranks, that’s where it gets good. A colonel earns nearly 91,000 pesos annually, a lieutenant colonel around 62,000, and a major is at about 49,700. But the generals are the ones who really take home the big money: a brigadier general reaches 122,000 pesos annually, and a division general exceeds 133,000.
What many don’t know is that in addition to the base salary, these military personnel have quite generous benefits: a 40-day Christmas bonus, a 20-day vacation premium, a pantry allowance ranging from 1,515 to 1,640 pesos, transportation allowance of 985 pesos, and a technical allowance that adds more than 40% extra. Some higher ranks even receive additional compensation of over 2,000 pesos.
The reality is that to reach those higher salaries, you need to study at institutions like the Heroic Military College or specialized schools within the military educational system. But looking at the numbers, a military career in Mexico is a pretty solid job option if you’re seeking stability and good income.
