Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA grant details, so let me break this down since the December payments are coming.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you literally have to go to a SASSA office in person. No shortcuts. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months or a letter from the bank), and you'll fill out a Payment Method Change Form. They send it to the bank and it takes up to 21 days to process. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to work for next month's payment, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

For the SRD R350 grant though, it's different—you can actually change your banking details online through the official SASSA portal. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your bank account details there. Same rule applies though: the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything.

Cellphone number changes? For SRD, use the contact portal on the SASSA website, enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, and they'll send an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office.

Big warning: there are fake SASSA websites out there trying to scam people. Always use the official link. And if the online process isn't working for you, just call or visit an office—sometimes that's faster anyway.
