Arab country officials reveal that the UAE is preparing to assist the United States and other allies in using force to control the Strait of Hormuz.
Reports say that an Emirati official stated that the UAE has proposed forming a coalition of American, European, and Asian countries to use force to control the strait.
The UAE is studying how to play a military role in securing the strait, including assisting in clearing mines and providing other support services.
The report states that Emirati officials believe the U.S. should occupy strategic waterway islands, including Abu Musa Island.
Abu Musa Island is located at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz, and there is a dispute between Iran and the UAE over its sovereignty; the island is currently under Iranian control.
The report points out that it is unclear whether military action can open the Strait of Hormuz.
Military analysts believe that any such operation would require not only controlling the waterway itself but also controlling the land along the 100-mile (about 160 km) stretch of coast, which may require deploying ground troops.
Currently, the UAE has not made any public statements on this matter.
