After the failure of Middle East peace talks, Trump’s 50% tariff threat deals a heavy blow to Bitcoin

After the announcement that Middle East peace talks had failed, U.S. President Trump issued a series of tough statements one after another. He not only ordered the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, but also threatened to impose a 50% tariff on countries that supply weapons to Iran, further pushing Bitcoin prices down again.

Trump posted on social media that the negotiations were progressing smoothly and that, aside from the issue of nuclear weapons, both sides had reached agreement on most other topics. He also emphasized that the nuclear issue is the only core matter.

After the talks broke down, Trump announced that the U.S. Navy would blockade all ships traveling to and from the Strait of Hormuz, and ordered the Navy to search for and intercept ships paying tolls to Iran in international waters.

He said that entities that illegally pay tolls would be unable to travel safely on the high seas, and that the U.S. would also clear mines Iran has laid in the strait. Any Iranian personnel who fire on U.S. forces or peace ships would face a strong crackdown.

In another post, Trump accused Iran of failing to fulfill its pledge to reopen the strait, saying it had brought “anxiety, chaos, and pain” to “many people and countries around the world.”

In addition, Trump previously warned that once any country is verified to be providing weapons to Iran, the U.S. would impose a 50% tariff on the relevant country.

Affected by the events surrounding the failure of the Middle East talks, Bitcoin’s price was under significant pressure and fell yesterday. After U.S. Vice President Vance announced that the two sides had failed to reach an agreement, Bitcoin dropped by more than $2,000 within a few minutes;

After Trump’s remarks spread, cryptocurrency prices briefly fell below $71,000 and hit multi-day lows. Analysts believe that once the traditional futures market opens tonight, market volatility will intensify significantly, with the oil futures sector being especially notable.
