Just realized I never actually knew how long 4 inches really was until I started measuring stuff around my apartment lol. Like, everyone throws around measurements but you never picture it right? Turns out it's basically the width of your palm or your closed fist - way more useful than just hearing the number. I checked and 4 inches equals 10.16 centimeters if that helps anyone else visualize it better. Grabbed my phone and a credit card to compare - the card's about 3.4 inches so 4 inches is just slightly longer, which actually makes sense now when I think about it. My TV remote's button section is pretty much exactly 4 inches, and honestly that's the best 4 inches example I've found because it's something you hold all the time. The width of my palm is almost exactly that measurement too, so now whenever someone asks I just show them my hand instead of trying to explain. Put it against a ruler and yeah, it takes up about one-third of a foot-long ruler from the zero mark. Compared it to a dollar bill too - that thing's 6.14 inches so 4 inches is like a little over half of it, which is another solid 4 inches example if you need a quick reference without a ruler. Funny thing is when you see 4 inches in real life it actually looks smaller than you'd expect from just hearing the number. I think that's because measurements sound bigger in your head until you attach them to something physical. Anyway if you're buying stuff online and the dimensions say 4 inches, now you know it's basically the size of a small snack bar or a compact notebook edge. Pretty normal small-to-medium size for most things.
