Just realized I need to update my SRD bank details before the next payment cycle, and honestly the online process is way easier than I thought. Turns out SASSA made the SRD grant system completely digital, so you can actually handle your bank account changes on their portal without going to an office. You just need your ID number and they send you a secure link via SMS to verify everything. Takes a few days for the bank to confirm, but beats waiting in line.

For anyone still on the permanent grants though, it's a different story - you have to go in person to the SASSA office. They want original documents, a recent bank statement, and they process it manually. The whole thing can take up to 21 working days before your new bank details actually kick in. Just make sure whatever account you're switching to is only in your name, no joint accounts or anything.

Also don't sleep on updating your phone number if it changed. That's how they send you the verification codes and payment notifications. There's an online portal for SRD where you enter the new number and they send an OTP to confirm. If the online thing isn't working, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 or email them. Way better than dealing with fraud risks using sketchy unofficial sites, trust me on that one.
