I just recently discovered that there are so many platforms that can provide virtual numbers to receive SMS messages, which really saves a lot of trouble. Before, when registering for overseas websites or testing verification code interfaces, I kept getting annoyed by all kinds of complicated processes. Later, I found out that there are such things as code receiving platforms.

Honestly, the need to receive SMS messages with a virtual number seems niche, but everyone who has used it understands how convenient it is. No need to apply for an extra SIM card, no worries about privacy leaks, and you can temporarily handle number verification issues. I’ve tried several platforms myself, encountered some pitfalls, and found a few good options.

Using SMS-Activate, the verification codes arrive quickly—usually within 10 seconds—and it covers many countries, making it suitable for people who often need cross-country testing. There’s also Super Cloud SMS, with fast response times for US numbers, and Chinese numbers are decent too. During peak hours, it might be a bit slower but still acceptable. 5SIM’s interface is quite user-friendly, and their API documentation is clear, which is good for API integration. For domestic applications, Bird Number and Getsmscode work fine, and their prices are also affordable.

When using virtual numbers to receive SMS, be aware that some numbers are shared and may have been used before, which can sometimes trigger risk control measures. Verification code delays are also common with less popular countries or apps. My advice is to choose a reputable platform and, if possible, prepare several backup numbers. This way, if one gets blocked, you can switch immediately, saving time.

If you only need to test interfaces occasionally, just pick any platform that supports API access—it’s enough. But if you need stable registration for a specific overseas website, it’s worth loading a few more numbers. Some platforms even have one-click number switching features, which are especially practical. Overall, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most reliably, with low latency and many options. But the best choice still depends on your specific use case.
