Mars Finance News, April 11 — Leaders of multiple United Nations agencies have called for an end to the widespread impunity for violations of international law in the Middle East region. In a joint statement, the leaders expressed their shock at the “continuing violations of the rules of war and international humanitarian law” in the area. The statement emphasized, “Even in war, there are rules, and these rules must be respected.” It also noted, “Just last month, thousands of civilians were killed or injured in the Middle East. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, many of whom were forced to migrate multiple times.” “We call on all parties—whether UN member states or armed groups—to respect their legal obligations to protect civilians (including humanitarian personnel) and civilian infrastructure. All violations must be held accountable.”
