The United Nations states that preliminary investigations indicate that peacekeepers in Lebanon were killed in a roadside bombing attack.

On March 31, local time, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, said during a briefing to the Security Council that preliminary investigations into the deaths of two Indonesian peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on March 30 indicate that the vehicle they were traveling in was hit by a roadside explosive attack. Lacroix said that the situation in Lebanon has dangerously worsened, and that the standoff between Hezbollah and Israel along the “Blue Line” and in surrounding areas continues to escalate. The Israel Defense Forces are steadily pushing forward with ground operations, advancing as far as 11 kilometers inland, and engaging in intense firefights with Hezbollah, while the scale of aerial combat has also reached unprecedented levels. At present, the Israeli military has control over large areas in the area immediately north of the “Blue Line.” (China Central Television News)
