Xinhua News Agency, Washington, April 1 — According to the U.S. “Washington Post” on April 1, the U.S. military has submitted a plan to President Trump to seize nearly 1,000 pounds (about 453.6 kilograms) of highly enriched uranium inside Iran. Experts believe that implementing this plan would be extremely difficult.

The report states that, according to two informed sources, the plan was submitted to Trump last week at his request, including the identified risks involved. The highly enriched uranium materials in Iran are mainly stored in nuclear facilities in Isfahan and other locations that were bombed by U.S. forces last June. Currently, the tunnels in the nuclear storage areas are still buried under debris.

The report quotes sources as saying that to reach the nuclear storage in Isfahan, “first, excavation equipment must be brought to the site, breaking through concrete and lead shielding layers” and other protective structures, “then it must go down to the bottom of the shaft, remove the containers holding nuclear materials, and airlift them out.”

Experts analyze that the plan’s implementation would be very challenging, likely starting with striking Iran’s defensive facilities and equipment to create safer passageways for ground forces, then airlifting hundreds or even thousands of soldiers and heavy excavation equipment into the site, and building a runway so cargo planes can transport these radioactive materials out. It is estimated that this process could take weeks or even months, and would need to be carried out deep inside Iran under threat of firepower. Additionally, personnel involved would face the risk of radioactive leaks.

According to the U.S. “New York Times” on March 29, hundreds of U.S. special forces soldiers have arrived in the Middle East. U.S. officials say these special forces will operate jointly with the Marine Corps and airborne units, potentially participating in actions against Iran’s nuclear facilities, as well as efforts to seize control of the Strait of Hormuz or occupy Iran’s oil export hub, Kharg Island.
