Putin Announces 32-Hour Ceasefire


Xinhua News Agency Moscow, April 9 (Reporter Hou Ming) — On April 9, Russian President Putin announced that Russia will soon implement a ceasefire for Orthodox Easter.

According to a statement released on the Kremlin website, Putin, the commander-in-chief of the Russian armed forces, has decided that, given the upcoming Orthodox Easter, Russia will declare a ceasefire from 4:00 p.m. Moscow time on the 11th to 12:00 a.m. on the 12th. It is hoped that Ukraine will follow Russia’s example.

Orthodox Easter this year falls on April 12.

The statement said that Russia’s Defense Minister Belyoussov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Gerasimov have received instructions to halt all combat operations in all directions during the ceasefire. At the same time, the Russian military must be prepared to respond to any possible provocations and incursions by Ukraine.
