Did you see this new HBO documentary? Money Electric is raising a very intriguing theory about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. And guess who the main suspect is? A cryptographer named Len Sassaman.
For those who don’t know, Sassaman was an important figure in the early days of modern cryptography. He worked on heavy projects like PGP and GNU Privacy Guard, was close to the San Francisco cypherpunks, and had an impressive academic background. Basically, the perfect profile for someone who would create Bitcoin.
What makes all of this even more intriguing? Len Sassaman was a PhD student in electrical engineering at KU Leuven when he passed away in 2011, at the age of 31. And here’s the strange detail: Satoshi Nakamoto remained completely silent two months before Sassaman’s death. Coincidence? Maybe.
There’s more. Linguistic analysis between Sassaman’s texts and Nakamoto’s shows suspicious similarities. And there’s that story about Sassaman leaving a suicide note with 24 random words. Anyone involved in cryptocurrencies knows that 24 words is exactly the standard for seed phrases for wallets. The entire crypto community has been wondering whether it’s a coincidence or if there’s something deeper there.
Of course, not everyone believes it. Len Sassaman’s wife dismisses the theory. And there’s the fact that the $64 billion in Bitcoin that Satoshi accumulated has never been moved, keeping the mystery alive.
Whether or not Sassaman was the creator of Bitcoin, his contributions to cryptography and privacy are undeniable. But now, with this HBO documentary reigniting the discussion, we’ll have much more time to debate this theory.
Do you think Len Sassaman was really Satoshi? Or do you think it’s just another conspiracy the crypto community loves? 🤔
