A university in Virginia, USA, shooting incident leaves 2 dead and 2 injured; the gunman was previously convicted for terrorism-related charges.
On March 12, local time, a shooting occurred at Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA, leaving 1 person dead and 2 people injured; the shooter has also died. A law enforcement source said the shooter was identified as Mohammed Belle Jallo, who had previously been a member of the Virginia National Guard. In 2016, Jallo admitted attempting to provide material support to the extremist organization “Islamic State” (ISIS), was sentenced to 11 years in prison, and was released early in December 2024. Police said the two injured victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, and their conditions are currently stable. All victims are associated with the university. Dan Driscoll, the U.S. Secretary of the Army, said two of the injured were Army personnel. Police said there is no ongoing threat on campus at this time. After the incident, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation sent personnel to assist with the investigation, and the school later announced that classes for the day would be suspended. It was also reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting in the direction of “terrorism.” (CCTV News)
