People’s Finance News, March 25—On March 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a regular press conference.

A reporter asked: Yesterday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on schedule, spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. We noticed that Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran expects China to continue playing a positive role in promoting de-escalation and stopping the fighting. What efforts will China make in the next step to help bring about a ceasefire and foster talks?

Lin Jian said: The spillover effects of the Iran conflict continue to spread, severely undermining peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond. An immediate ceasefire and stopping the fighting is the common expectation of the people of the regional countries and a shared call from the international community. In his phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian yesterday, Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that China’s principled position is that all regional hotspot issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiations, not through the use of force. It’s better to talk than to fight. We hope all parties will seize every peaceful opportunity and window to launch the talks process as soon as possible.

Since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, China has been working tirelessly for ceasefire and doing its best for peace. As long as the conflict continues, our diplomatic efforts to facilitate will not stop. China will further play a constructive role in promoting de-escalation and stopping the fighting, and will work together with regional countries and the international community to contribute to the early restoration of peace and tranquility in the Gulf region.
