Just read that Konstantin Ignatov finally walked free from prison back in early March. He's the brother of Ruja Ignatova, the Cryptoqueen behind that massive OneCoin scam that took like $4 billion from people. Apparently he'd already served his 34-month sentence, so the judge just released him.
What's wild is how deep Konstantin Ignatov got pulled into the whole thing. Started as his sister's assistant when OneCoin was booming, then basically took over running the fraud after she disappeared in 2017. The guy even lied on the witness stand about ditching his laptop in Vegas, which is pretty crazy considering he ended up cooperating anyway.
So far they've taken down most of the OneCoin crew - Mark Scott the lawyer got 10 years for laundering $400M, Karl Greenwood (co-founder) got 20 years and apparently made $300M off the scheme before getting caught. Even the head of legal compliance pleaded guilty. But Ruja Ignatova? Still missing since 2017, on the FBI's most wanted list. Some people think a drug lord might've killed her back in 2018, but who knows at this point.
