There is a story that has always left a deep impression on me, about a negotiation between Cao Dewang and a French businessman. At that time, Fuyao had already established a certain position in the international market. The cooperation with a French company was going smoothly, and they were about to sign the contract. Suddenly, the French representative made a joke that belittled China, and all the French people laughed. But Cao Dewang’s face immediately darkened, and he stood up directly.

He didn’t say much nonsense, but asked: Do you really understand China? The entire conference room fell silent. Then Cao Dewang continued, although Fuyao wanted to do this business, we are a Chinese company. If you slander China in front of me, there’s nothing more to talk about. After speaking, he turned to leave.

The head of the French delegation quickly chased out to stop him, trying to smooth things over by saying “It was just a joke.” But Cao Dewang was even angrier upon hearing this, and directly issued a stern warning: If you want to sign the contract, your company must replace all these representatives and send new people to talk to me. Fuyao doesn’t lack this money, and we will never cooperate with people who disrespect the country.

In the end, after weighing the pros and cons, the French company decided to continue working with Fuyao. They dismissed those representatives and even personally apologized to Cao Dewang. The contract was finally signed.

This story reflects a characteristic of Cao Dewang: he is an entrepreneur who dares to speak and act. But more importantly, he has principles. Making money is important, but not all money is worth earning, and not everyone is suitable for cooperation. His unwavering stance on principles is rooted in his patriotism, which is why he was able to elevate Fuyao to an international level. Many people only see the business skills of entrepreneurs, but for someone like Cao Dewang, patriotism and career ambition are intertwined.
