According to the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), local time in the United States on the 6th, the ongoing Artemis 2 crewed lunar flyby mission broke the human record for the farthest flight distance from Earth on the day.

According to NASA data, the Artemis 2 crewed lunar flyby mission broke the human record for the farthest flight distance from Earth set by the Apollo 13 mission in 1970 at around 13:57 p.m. ET. The record was 248655 miles (about 400171 kilometers).

According to the plan, the Artemis 2 crewed lunar flyby mission is scheduled to fly to a point 252760 miles (about 406778 kilometers) from Earth at 19:07 p.m. ET on the 6th, exceeding the record set by Apollo 13 by 4105 miles (about 6606 kilometers).

Canadian astronaut Hansen said during the lunar flyby, “Everything I can see from here takes my breath away,” and “I hope our generation or the next generation will break the record again very soon.”

This Artemis 2 mission uses the United States’ new-generation Moon-landing rocket “Space Launch System” and the “Orion” spacecraft, carrying four astronauts, including 3 U.S. astronauts and 1 Canadian astronaut. The “Space Launch System” launched into the air from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center on the evening of April 1.

According to reports from U.S. media, this flight mission lasts 10 days. After completing the lunar flyby and returning to Earth, it will not land on the Moon. NASA said the mission will test the spacecraft’s systems and lay the foundation for the 2028 crewed Moon-landing plan and deep-space exploration missions.
