On April 6, a securities reporter in China exclusively learned from industry chain insiders that Foxconn has already begun trial production of Apple’s foldable-screen iPhone.

Previously, the reporter learned from supply-chain companies that the shipping target guidance Apple provides to suppliers is to release its first foldable-screen phone in the second half of 2026—a large-foldable-screen iPhone.

An industry chain insider analyzed that Apple smartphones have a massive user base, and demand for Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to be strong, but unit sales will depend on the final pricing.

Research firm Counterpoint believes that as Apple prepares to launch its first foldable iPhone, the foldable-phone market will enter a new competitive phase in 2026. Given the high-end positioning of foldable screens, early demand for Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to come mainly from existing iPhone users. Some users who are considering a book-style foldable screen may also view Apple’s upcoming device as an alternative option, thereby increasing the likelihood of ecosystem migration.

Data released by research firm IDC shows that in 2025, shipment volume in China’s foldable smartphone market was about 10.01 million units, up 9.2% year over year. Looking ahead to the second half of 2026, Apple is expected to enter the foldable smartphone segment. More brands are expected to launch diversified form-factor innovative products, and market attention and consumer appeal are expected to rise again. The foldable smartphone market may return to a phase of rapid growth in the future.

In a research report, Guosheng Securities stated that Apple’s first foldable-screen phone is about to be released. It is expected to accelerate the adoption of foldable smartphones. In addition, the volume-and-price increase will be driven by iterations in non-folding-mark technology, injecting additional incremental volume into the supply chain.

Recently, during an institutional research visit, Apple supplier Lens Technology stated that in this year’s foldable-phone project for the major customer, the company supplies UTG glass, PET film, glass brackets, 3D glass cover panels, and other products; the value of the new projects is high, and its share is leading. The company will significantly benefit. At present, the progress on the foldable screen is going smoothly, and it is expected to be released in the second half of the year. The company is ramping up production delivery according to the plan.

PENGDING Holding is an Apple smartphone printed circuit board supplier. When discussing changes in circuit board part numbers for the foldable-screen phones of the major customer, PENGDING Holding said in January during an institutional research visit that the customer’s product has not yet been launched, so it is not convenient to offer an assessment. Judging from the requirements for the new product, theoretically, higher demands may be placed on the number of part numbers and the production processes of certain part numbers.

Apple supplier L&V Smart Manufacturing mentioned in mid-2025 the foldable-screen terminal in stating that it made an important breakthrough in a high-end VC heat-dissipation project in collaboration with a major North American customer.
